Electric kettles for chai, maggi and hot water
A kettle is the appliance that pays for itself fastest: boiling water for chai or instant noodles in three minutes instead of ten on a gas burner.
At under ₹1,000 the decision is simple. A 1.5-litre kettle covers two to three cups at once; 1.8 litres is for a family. The features that matter are a boil-dry cut-off and an auto shut-off, both of which are safety, not convenience.
Ratings were read on 5 November 2026 and prices are approximate.
Seven kettles under ₹1,000
Family sizes first, then the cheapest ISI-certified option, then a travel kettle.

Milton
₹685
4.0
Milton Go Electric Kettle, 1.5 L, 1350 W, 3X Protection
1350 W · 1.5 L · Dry-boil, auto cut-off, overheat protection
Good for: A family kitchen that wants a safe, well-built default kettle
- Triple protection covers the three ways a kettle fails: it switches off at the boil, cuts out if it runs dry, and trips on overheating.
- Milton says the dry-boil mechanism passed 100 dry cycles and the kettle 100 hours of endurance testing — the kind of claim most budget kettles do not make.
- A 50% thicker heating plate is the part that determines how long the kettle lasts in hard-water areas.
- 1.5 litres and 1350 W is the sensible middle of this category, at ₹685.
Watch out: The listing makes no cool-touch claim, so treat the body as hot during boiling.

Prestige
₹649
3.9
Prestige PKOSS 1.5 L Electric Kettle, 1350 W, Stainless-Steel Lid
1350 W · 1.5 L · Stainless-steel lid · Concealed element · Auto cut-off
Good for: Anyone who wants no plastic against the water, including the lid
- The stainless-steel lid is the real differentiator here: steam condenses on it and drips back into the water, so a steel lid keeps plastic out of the loop.
- A concealed heating element means nothing protrudes into the water to collect scale and make cleaning difficult.
- A single-touch locking lid keeps steam in and stops the lid lifting as it boils.
- Prestige has one of the widest service networks in India, which matters more than a feature on a ₹649 appliance.
Watch out: The lowest-rated pick in this guide at 3.9 — a reminder that big-brand service does not guarantee a perfect unit, so check it in the return window.

Milton
₹604
4.0
Milton Rapid Electric Kettle, 1.8 L, 1500 W
1500 W · 1.8 L · Auto cut-off + dry-boil · Wide mouth
Good for: Six or more cups at a time, or an office pantry
- 1.8 litres is the largest capacity in this guide and covers seven cups in one boil — useful when guests arrive or the whole family wants tea together.
- 1500 W is the most powerful element here, so the bigger volume does not mean a longer wait.
- Automatic shut-off with dry-boil protection, and a wide mouth that makes filling and cleaning easy.
- At ₹604 it costs less than most 1.5-litre kettles from the same brand.
Watch out: A full 1.8-litre boil takes a little longer than 1.5 litres, and the kettle is taller — check it fits under your kitchen shelf.

1350 W · 1.5 L · 2-year warranty · Cordless 360° base

- The 360° cordless base lets you lift and pour from any side, which is genuinely convenient for left-handed use.

Lifelong

3.8
Lifelong ISI Certified Electric Kettle, 1.5 L, 1500 W
1500 W · 1.5 L · ISI certified · Boil-dry + auto cut-off
Good for: The lowest price that still carries a safety certification
- The only ISI-certified kettle in this guide, at the lowest price — the certification means it was tested to the Indian standard for this appliance.
- 1500 W on a 1.5-litre body, so it boils as fast as anything here.
- Auto shut-off and boil-dry protection, which some kettles at twice the price still skip.
- A stainless-steel body with a spill-free spout and a wide opening for filling.
Watch out: A 3.8 rating and a one-touch design with no frills — at ₹472, expect basic finish and a short cord rather than polish.

Wonderchef
₹499
3.9
Wonderchef Acura Stainless-Steel Electric Kettle, 1.5 L, 1350 W
1350 W · 1.5 L · Thermostat control · Safety locking lid
Good for: A stainless-steel body at the lowest price from a known brand
- A stainless-steel body at ₹499 is unusual — most kettles at this price are plastic outside with a steel liner.
- Thermostat control and automatic switch-off, plus a safety locking lid that stops drips.
- A pilot light shows when it is heating, so you are not guessing whether the switch caught.
- 1350 W and 1.5 litres, the same core specification as kettles costing ₹200 more.
Watch out: A steel body gets hot to the touch while boiling and there is no cool-touch claim — keep it back from the counter edge with children around.

950 W · 500 ml · 2 glasses included · 2-year warranty on registration
Good for: Hotel rooms, hostels and a desk where you only make a cup or two
- The highest-rated kettle in this guide at 4.2 — small kettles are simpler, and this one is well reviewed.
- 500 ml boils in a couple of minutes, and the compact body packs into a bag for travel.
- Two glasses are included, which is exactly what you need in a hotel room.
- A removable lid makes it easy to fill and clean, and the second year of warranty comes free if you register within 30 days.
Watch out: At ₹910 for 500 ml it is poor value as your only kitchen kettle — buy it as a second kettle or a travel one.

1.5 or 1.8 litres
A 1.5-litre kettle fills three large cups with a little to spare, which is the right size for one or two people. A 1.8-litre kettle is for a family making chai for four or more, and takes noticeably longer to boil.
Anything smaller than 1.5 litres is a travel or single-cup kettle. The 500 ml iBELL below is for hotel rooms and small desks, not a kitchen.

The two safety features to check
Boil-dry protection cuts the element if the kettle is switched on empty. Auto shut-off cuts it when the water boils. Both are standard on most models now, but a few cheap kettles still ship with only one.
ISI certification is the mark that the product was tested to an Indian standard. At similar prices, it is a fair tiebreaker between two unknown brands.
Body and lid
A stainless-steel body with a steel lid is easier to keep clean than a plastic one, and does not take on the smell of the last thing boiled. Plastic bodies are lighter and cooler to touch but can stain.
A wide mouth makes cleaning easier, which matters if you boil milk or make noodles in the kettle. If you only boil water, a narrow spout pours better.
