Airtight containers for dal, atta and leftovers

Prices and ratings checked 5 November 2026 8 picks

The container sets on Amazon are sold in counts — 6, 12, 18 pieces — which hides the only number that matters: how many of each size you get.

A set with six small boxes is useless for atta; a set of six 1.2-litre boxes leaves you nowhere to put chana dal. The right set depends on whether you store cooked food in the fridge, dry staples in a pantry, or both.

We picked from listings that state capacity, material and lid type, with ratings read on 5 November 2026. Prices are approximate.

4.4

Cello Checkers Container Set, 18 Pieces, 300/650/1200 ml

18 pieces · 6 × 300 ml, 6 × 650 ml, 6 × 1200 ml · BPA-free

Good for: Setting up a kitchen from scratch in one purchase

  • Eighteen pieces across three useful sizes for ₹499 — the best coverage per rupee in this guide.
  • Transparent bodies and airtight lids, so you can see what is inside and the contents stay dry.
  • Light and unbreakable, which matters in a kitchen where containers get stacked and dropped.

Watch out: Eighteen pieces is a lot of lids to match; the plastic is basic and not built for years of daily stacking.

Signoraware Modular Square Container, 12 L
Best bulk storage

Signoraware

₹669

4.5

Signoraware Modular Square Container, 12 L

12 L · BPA-free · Push-lock lid · Dishwasher-safe

Good for: A full 10 kg bag of atta or rice

  • A 12-litre bin swallows a whole atta or rice bag, so you stop decanting into multiple small jars.
  • A push-lock lid with an airtight, leak-proof seal, and a body rated dishwasher-safe.
  • Square footprint stacks better than round bins and wastes less shelf space.

Watch out: A 12-litre bin is large — measure the shelf before buying, and it is heavy to lift when full.

VOLTURI

VOLTURI Airtight Containers, 6 × 1200 ml

6 containers × 1200 ml · PP · Airtight · Freezer-safe

Good for: Storing dal, rice and atta in 1200 ml quantities

  • Six 1.2-litre containers cover the usual dals, rice and sugar in one matching set.
  • Polypropylene is the tougher plastic, and the listing rates it freezer-safe as well as airtight.
  • A wide mouth makes scooping easy and cleaning quicker than narrow jars.

Watch out: Not the most transparent plastic, so labelling the lids helps in a crowded shelf.

4.2

GOLWYN Airtight Container Set, 8 × 1100 ml

8 containers × 1100 ml · Silicone gasket · Leak-proof

Good for: Restocking a pantry in one go

  • Eight 1.1-litre containers with silicone-gasket lids, enough for most of a dry-goods shelf.
  • The flip-top lid with a gasket is easier to open daily than a screw lid.

  • Airtight lids keep insects and moisture out of dry goods.

Sizes you will actually use

For a two-person kitchen, the useful trio is 300 ml (leftover sabzi, chutney), 650 ml (dal for one meal) and 1.2 litres (rice for two or three days). Sets built around those three sizes get used daily.

For dry staples, think in litres rather than millilitres. A 5 kg bag of atta needs roughly a 5–6 litre container; a kilo of dal fits in about 1.5 litres with headroom.

What airtight actually means

A push-on lid is not airtight. Airtight means a gasket — silicone or rubber — compressed by clips or a screw lid. That matters for flour (pantry moths), for coffee and for anything you want to keep crisp.

For dal and rice stored for weeks, a simple push-lock with a rubber ring is enough. For spices, small jars with tight lids beat one large box, because you open them for seconds at a time.

Fridge, freezer and pantry are different jobs

Freezer-safe containers need lids that stay flexible at low temperature; cheap rigid lids crack. If you freeze cooked dal or gravy, buy containers the listing explicitly calls freezer-safe.

For the pantry, stackability and a flat lid matter more than clarity. For the counter, a clear body lets you see what is running low without opening anything — which is why display jars sell in threes.

Before you buy

Questions people ask before buying

Short answers to what comes up most often about airtight containers for dal, atta and leftovers.

Are plastic containers safe for hot dal?

Let the dal cool to warm before closing the lid. Most food-grade PP containers handle warm food fine, but hot food plus a sealed lid traps steam and can warp thinner lids.

How much container do I need for 5 kg of atta?

About 5–6 litres, so a 6-litre or larger bin. Leave headroom so the lid seals without pressing on the flour.

Do I need separate containers for the fridge and pantry?

Ideally yes. Freezer and fridge containers should be freezer-safe and stackable; pantry containers should be opaque or clearly labelled and bought for bulk volume.
